What other people have said:
"The Drawing for the Totally Terrified class was extremely interesting, relaxing and fun...Liz is a great teacher! I can't wait for the next class to start"
"I loved every lesson. DTT totally changed the way I draw"
Are most drawing courses for beginners designed to shock and awe rather than reassure or frustrate rather than elucidate??
'How To' copy book manuals or web pages full of Teachers' impressive qualifications, international gallery accolades with daunting Illustrations frankly intimidate me.
Even reassurances about ‘gentle’ approaches elicit <<<<Psycho>>> shower scene sound tracks e.g. join pre <established groups + loyal followings> where beginners are ‘welcome’ and teaching will be <appropriate whatever your standard or ability>. Suppose your standard is off the radar and/or you never seem to get any better??
Finally if you do summon up the nerve to join a class [Why do they insist that you have to start learning from the life model ?] you feel lost among the masses and feel deeply grateful for even 2 minutes with the teacher who might just look, say nothing or even worse take over your drawing.
It is petrifying!
DTT + wine sessions are different
The first/taster session will be a particularly light hearted informal, relaxed and hopefully sociable session to enable beginners to understand and lapsed intermediates to remember what 'drawing' is. I will use experimental exercises help build confidence and technique and disclose a few tricks of the trade. Everyone will have a unique opportunity to find out if a glass or two of wine and my creative crisis management methods can release your petrified ‘inner artist' and get you really enjoying 'drawing'.
The following sessions will enable people who have survived the initiation to engage in additional confidence boosting drawing and observation exercises and to acquire further technical know-how in a slightly less convivial but still un- pressurised environment.
We will unraveling further 'Mysteries of Drawing' e.g., How to draw Nothing , the Mysteries of Deep Negative Space, Making your Mark as an artist ; How to take a line for a Walk; Baselitz Rules, and other frivolous sounding and grossly misleading entitled areas of artistic lore and malpractice .
After that? Subsequent terms will build on learning and offer opportunities to consider composition, colour and projects based on different objects, nature and life model.
Additional extended half day drawing sessions open to all are also proposed
IF YOU CAN'T COMMIT TO A REGULAR CLASS CONSIDER ‘Arty Women's Afternoons Off/ Nights Out - ALSO OPEN TO MEN for the first 3 month of 2012and permanently provided everyone agrees on the 2nd Wednesday of every month. I am also finalizing the 2012 spring schedule which will include opportunities to try different media including charcoal, various paints, inks, collage , mono printing etc. as well as 3D media like plaster/paper clay/papier mache. All of these will be suitable for total beginners as well as those who simply want to get back into some creative activity and do not have the space/materials at home or the time to commit to a course.
